Claiming the Story--Proclaiming the Story
"… for we cannot keep from speaking about what we have seen and heard."
Acts 4:20
We are people of THE STORY—not just any story—but THE STORY. We claim and proclaim THE STORY of God’s love in Christ. One important way a congregation claims, and proclaims, is through educational programs for members of all ages: pre-school through adult.
Children's Ministries
Children ages 2 through sixth grade gather in the sanctuary with their families at 9:45 for a time of worship and music, and then are dismissed to their Sunday School classes at 10:05. We use the Witness Sunday school curriculum, which teaches kids to "learn from the Bible to live the good news".
Who is a witness? Someone who:
- KNOWS the Word through teaching and re-learning the salvation story through well-loved Bible stories.
- GROWS in Faith through relating faith traits to a Bible character and developing that trait in learners. Faith traits are:
- Generosity, kindness, humility, compassion, empathy, respect, and thankfulness, which flow out of the gift of love.
- Cooperation, loyalty, obedience, boldness, and reverence, which are born in trust.
- Responsibility, self-discipline, perseverance, forgiveness, justice, and wisdom, which come with courage.
- Harmony, stewardship, patience, peace, and joy, which shine forth from hope
- SHOWS Service
- The stewardship shown by our Sunday School students helped purchase stockings and books about the Christmas story to help Lutheran Social Services make Christmas brighter for less fortunate kids in Anchorage.
- Our Sunday School students led the congregation in raising enough money to purchase an ark (and then some!) of farm animals for the Heifer Project, which helps families around the world produce their own food and contribute to their communities.
Confirmation
This program is designed to prepare our young people to take the next step in their faith journey as confirmed members of our congregation. It is a two-year program that combines Sunday evening study, faithful worship attendance, fellowship opportunities and service opportunities. Study topics include the Bible, prayer, the Apostles' Creed, the Lord's Prayer, the Ten Commandments, the history and organization of the church, and other religions in our community and world. Confirmation concludes with each student presenting a faith talk and being confirmed--affirming their baptism. Lead by Pastor Marty Dasler and Youth Pastor Tyler Malotky.
High School
High school students at Amazing Grace meet in the youth room upstairs (the room with the couches) to discuss how faith leads us to act in everyday life based on the "Nooma" Series. Check Nooma.com/rain with Rob Bell to preview this excellent series!
Adult Forum
Adults of all ages meet in the fellowship hall at 9:45 to learn about and discuss various topics. Recently the group has studied the Gospel of Mark, Acts, and has studied the "The Retreat Series" with C.S. Lewis and Julian of Norwich
Vacation Bible School
This is a unique learning opportunity for children ages 3 through grade 6 offered for one week during the summer months. Each year we explore God's amazing love through a variety of fun themes. We learned that God's love is higher than the mountains and deeper than the oceans through our daily themes: God love is caring, kind, loving, forgiving and forever.
